JANI LANE On Possible WARRANT Reunion: 'Never Say Never'
November 7, 2005Wendy Rae of Classic Rock Revisited recently conducted an interview with former WARRANT frontman Jani Lane. An excerpt from the chat follows:
Classic Rock Revisited: I totally did. Why did you leave WARRANT?
Jani: "I was more or less in my opinion asked to leave WARRANT because I did not like some of the business practices that were going on. I basically asked for some paperwork and didn't get it. We weren't seeing eye to eye at the time, myself and some of the other members. They would like to say that I quit to go do a solo project, but I was very happy doing the solo project as well as WARRANT. Neither one was becoming a problem. What happened was they had a game plan to go get someone else to sing. What their reasons were for that are, I don't know, whether it was monetary or whatever. The bottom line is that long before I decided that I couldn't work with them, I left it up in the air, like when we can come to something we can resolve, then let's get on the phone and talk about it. They were already moving forward with their version; a version that they could control without my input. If that is what they wanted to do, then let them do it. What I was concerned about was that I think that certain things hurt the legacy of the name."
Classic Rock Revisited: Is there any chance that y'all will do a reunion concert.
Jani: "Look outside…It is not snowing and we are not in hell. At the moment chances are very slim that there will be a reunion but, I will never say never."
Classic Rock Revisited: How is your relationship with the guys in the band?
Jani: "I talked to Joey [Allen, guitar] after he quit at the Greek Theatre in LA. I haven’t talked to any of the other members in two years."
Classic Rock Revisited: Wow! That seems that it would be hard for y'all because you were together for so long.
Jani: "Some of the nastiest fights in the world are between brothers. I don't ever say that I don't like them or that I hate them or use any of those kind of terms. Right now working together? I don’t see that happening. We are bros. They have said a lot of nasty stuff recently, so I take the high road. It takes too much energy to hate someone so much, especially when you don't really hate them."
